B.C.S.C.A.T. Ramp Contest

S.C.A.T. Scores

A few months ago, 4Offroad's 20-degree ramp was stolen from their old shop in Surrey. The BC Southcoast All-Terrainers 4x4 club decided to help him out by putting on a ramp contest and donating most of the proceeds towards the cost of a new ramp.

The event was held at Reliable Parts' parking lot in Coquitlam. The unusually sunny day resulted in an excellent turn-out. Some of the participants had been spending the winter months upgrading their rigs for the upcoming 'wheeling season. For them, the contest would be the first opportunity to see if their suspension changes were worthwhile. For others, it was an opportunity to meet other offroaders and get some ideas for future modifications.

The SCAT members did an excellent job of organizing the event. Everyone knew their job and processed the contest entrees in an efficient, orderly manner. With their ability to put together events like this, I think they would be excellent candidates for putting on a large mainland fourwheeling event similar to what the Island Rockcrawlers do with their very popular "Rockcrawl" held each May long weekend.

The winner of the contest was Randy from Breeze Industries in his Suzuki Samurai. The short wheelbase, wide Toyota axles, and excellent suspension engineering allowed him to score 876 on the 30 degree ramp. The next closest scores were Jon Bruce in his 1/4 elliptical CJ7, Reo in his coil-sprung Samurai, and Rod in his Warn coil-over YJ.

Paul's RE lifted TJ turned in a fantastic score of 767 on the 30 deg ramp. Considering the bolt-on nature of his lift kit, it provided a great bang for the buck. Rob and Dave's Spamurai did well with its custom Revolver-clone shackles. Chris James and what is probably the flexiest Nissan Pathfinder in Canada.
Chris Waterman's YJ is running OME 2.5" springs on top of his axles. Proving that the big trucks can flex like the little trucks, this near-stock Dodge Ram came very close to scoring 1000 on the 20 deg ramp. Reo's custom coiled Suzuki.
Dave Lippmann's wristed radius arm gave his Bronco much more articulation over a stock radius arm setup. Rod's super flexy YJ with a Warn coil-over kit. The man who stole the show! Jon Bruce didn't get the highest score but his 1/4 elliptical suspension freaked out the on-lookers with its massive amount of axle droop.
Now he just needs to work on making the front end as flexy as the rear. A prize draw was held after the contest. Thanks to SCAT for putting on an excellent event! The winner of the event: Randy from Breeze Industries.
