Lillooet LRMP - More Land to be Locked Up??
Jan 30, 2001
On Feb. 17th there will be an open house held in Lillooet to present
what may be the final plan for the Lillooet forest district. According
to our table member all these years of the process...the
conservationists don't seem to be able to come to any compromising
agreement apart from wanting it all...in that vein they are putting on a
bit of a show at the H.R. McMillan Planetarium (ironic considering who
H.R. McMillan was) on Feb. 12th (7:30PM) to try to garner public support for getting it all. Slides, videos, speakers etc. will be there.
For me, the most galling item is what is called the Spruce Lake area.
There are some private land owners around the lake that have managed to convince environmentalists and conservationists that maybe a vast area around their little bits of paradise should be protected for its 'wilderness' value. There are various old mining and logging roads going into the area, there are cabins at the lake, these people fly in with their big noisy MOTORIZED planes and now they want to protect for all eternity their own back yard! My eye!
This isn't the only issue the event is covering.
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, the Federation of BC
Naturalists and the Vancouver Natural History Society are putting this event on.
Perhaps a group of multi-use interests should meet them there and get whatever similar attention from people and any attending media to
contradict their propaganda.
