Tips for Using the Mailing List

• If you find that you're receving too much mail from the BC4x4 list, try switching to digest mode. To do this, just go to http://www.yahoogroups.com/subscribe/bc4x4, login (if you haven't already registered as a user on the site, do so now), and change your subscription options to daily digest mode.
• Trim your replies. Just because your email program automatically includes the entire contents of the original message to which you are replying, it doesn't mean you should send it. Trim the original, quoted message so that only the relevant text remains. Then type your reply. Besides conserving bandwidth, it makes it easier for those of us who don't have the luxury of a fast Internet connection.
• Before posting a message, always consider whether or not your message really needs to be seen by everyone on the mailing list. "Thank you" messages or "me too" types of replies should be sent directly to the intended recipient, not the entire list. The same goes for chit-chat and jokes.
• Communication via email can sometimes be difficult because visual cues such as smiles and hand gestures can't be seen. Therefore, when wondering if someone has insulted you or challenged your manhood (or womanhood), always give them the benefit of the doubt. Likewise, always re-read your messages before sending them. Make sure they can't be taken the wrong way.
• Arguments inevitably arise on a mailing list and are a part of any passionate discourse. Slurs and insults, however, are not. Keep it clean.
• DO NOT POST VIRUS WARNING MESSAGES TO THE LIST.

How to Get Banned From the List

Because the following two rules are self-evident and basic netiquette, breaking them can result in your being immediately banned from the list:

• DO NOT SPAM THE LIST WITH GET RICH QUICK SCHEMES OR ANY OTHER MONEY MAKING OPPORTUNITIES.
• DO NOT ADVERTISE YOUR BUSINESS ON THE LIST. The BC4x4 list is not intended as an advertising medium for businesses. If you are interested in advertising via BC4x4, contact lars@bc4x4.com for information.
• Posting messages containing name-calling and insults will result in a cease and desist warning by the list administrator. Failure to heed the warning will result in banning.
