Zodi Hot Tap Model 6140 Portable Hot Shower

Everyone loves going camping. I'm not talking about loading the family into the R.V. and driving a couple of hours to the nearest KOA. I'm talking about hopping in your 4x4 and getting into the outback, where there are no conveniences. No flush toilets, no shower. Hold on, NO SHOWER? One of the greatest inconveniences of wilderness camping is the inability to take a shower. Spend two or three days in the bush and personal hygiene goes right out the window.

We, however, have been lucky enough to run across an excellent product designed and manufactured by Zodi Outback Gear of Park City, Utah. The Zodi Hot Tap EP is a propane powered portable hot water shower. Using two standard Coleman style propane cylinders (or optional hookup for attachment to propane tank) to heat your source of water, this compact unit works incredibly efficiently. Our test unit attached to our truck's battery to power the water pump, but they are also available with an optional battery pack for total portability.

In use our unit was very easy to setup and operate. Attach the propane cylinders, hook the water pump to the truck battery and fill a bucket with water. Submerge the water pump in the bucket and fire the burners on the water heater. Since we tested this unit in the fall, our available water source was quite cold but a very noticeable increase in temperature was felt almost immediately. We were able to have very hot water by recirculating into the bucket for about 5 minutes. During warmer months, recirculation isn't necessary. The water temperature can be regulated by adjusting the gas valve knob.

We were very pleased with the ability to have such hot water, especially after a cold day in the woods hunting. The Zodi uses a small pump that has a light water flow. At first this takes a bit of getting used to but remember, this isn't a home shower. When you're outside, in the cold, it is a fantastic feeling to have a HOT shower and the low water pressure isn't going to dampen that enjoyment one bit.

We highly recommend this product. Quality construction and design has made for a very compact and easy to use product. One shower with this product after a day in the woods will make you wonder how you lived without it.

The complete system.

Power cords, water intake hose and pump.

Ah, hot water!
