does anyone know the difference between the 400 and 460 bellhousings. I have one off of a stock 351/400. It bolts up to the 460 but the flywheel and clutch don't fit under it. What's the deal?

The bellhousing is the same between the 351M/400 and 460. The flywheels are different.

For 79-older 460s, use a 360/390 flywheel (460s only came auto at this point). For 80-up 460s use the stock 460 flywheel.

360-390 flywheel WILL NOT work its got a round pattern only 351-400/ or the one for the 460 are compatable.the 79 and earlier are able to use a 360-390 flywheel because both are internally balanced.79 & up are externally but then you will only be able to use a 10" clutch.I can e-mail you the details of my swap if you'd like

I'VE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS TOPIC LATELY AND IF YOUR 460 IS A 78 OR EARLIER A 360-390 FLYWHEEL WILL WORK BUT THERE IS A 4 TOOTH DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THE FLEX PLATE AND THE FLYWHEEL SOME BINDING WILL HAPPEN THOUGH AND YOUR STARTER WILL WEAR OUT.I'VE HEARED THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS GET A FLYWHEEL FROM A 429 BOSS MUSTANG. GOOD LUCK IF YOU CAN FIND ONE THAT SOMEONE WILL LET GO.
