air horns

having a problem with my hella air horn. since i installed it, it seems to only work when it wants. i'll be on an empty street and try to lay on my horn and i get nothing, but 10 minutes later, it will work again. i've narrowed it down to a problem with the relay. if i toggle the connections on the relay, it will work, but like i said, 10 minutes later, nothing. i've changed all the connections on the relay and it still hasn't fixed the problem. i guess the relay itself could be faulty. maybe i just answered my own question. any thoughts?

it sounds like the relay is on its way out.

the thing is though, it's a brand new air horn - like a month old.

Try a different relay, if that doesn't work, it might be in the steering wheel. I've seen them work when they want, until you pull off the steering wheel and clean the contacts. Just a thought.
the factory horn worked just fine before i put the air horn in, so i think the contacts are fine.

What kind of horn is that, where did you get it??

What I mean is, HOW LOUD IS IT??

I want to get a big Semi Type horn for my Sammi. Do you know if there are any regulations for those puppies?

My Goal is to have a nice big Light bar in the front with a big Air horn so it anyone Cuts me off anymore I can Lay on the horn and light them up like a christmas tree, and Scare the Crap out of them.
LOL

its decently loud but i wish it had a deeper tone. last night i was making a left turn and had the signal, but some jackass and his girlfriend decided to cross, so i went up close and laid on the horn. boy, did they get good air time!

as for the regulations, i'm not sure, but the big rigs are ok with them so why not the small rigs, eh? if you search for the net for air horns, some sites have wav files that give you an idea of what they sound like. some are just nuts! before buying a horn, i'd recommend that you decide where the 2 or 3 horns are gonna go. that was my problem, i couldn't find a good mounting location.

LOL HAHA ROFL

Thats awsome, We are on the same wave length about that.

I will have to check out the net to see.

I am hoping that it will accully fit under the hood in my Sammy. But we will see. At least that way it is out of site and out of mind, and can't get in trouble for having it, if I am not suppose to. LOL

How much did you pay for yours? Did you need a compressor for it or anything like that or was it all in one?

the compressor came with it and it's a bit smaller than a pop can. i paid $50 at lordco using my discount card.

Aaaactually (and I do hate to ruin your fun) one of the first things a cop will ask you to do when he's looking for stuff wrong with your truck (so he can give you a VI) is toot the horn.

I'd tell you about my truck but you probably wouldn't believe me.

My horn is already jerry rigged by the previous owner to a stupid button under the dash, Don't ask me why, I have no Idea. So my play is to hook the airhorn up to the steering wheel and keep the little tooter horn so I can have the friendly honk and the "GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY" honk.

LOL

I hooked up my air horns straight to the old horns wires, so Im using the orig. relay. I was worried about blowing fuses, but if you check the amperage on the stock horn, its almost identical to that of the air horns.
Yeah, I wish they were a little deeper too, but hey, anythings better than the wimpy stock horn...
new relay = fully functional air horn! thanks everyone!
