I managed to squeeze 4" backspaced rims onto my 86 but with the solid front I believe you'd need 3.75" or more.

I just put them on my 4Runner. 3.75 will fit fine on a stock 85. . I did a SAS on my truck and am running the IFS brake calipers so I needed 1/4 inch spacers. I couldn’t get the rims I wanted with a 3.5 or less backspacing.

They work great. Loads of flex. By what I've been reading though the chevy springs might be a bit longer. I just got my 35's on so now I get to do some fender trimming.
