he's right...

you can run any size tires you want
44's even...

it's geared to get best performance from stock tires.

I run 33's...it's liveable...i don't think i'd ever go to 35's without regearing...
it's hard on the clutch to get these tires rolling.

yes, 33's. Don't go bigger until you get better axels.

Personally, I'd stick with 31" tires. I didn't like the performance I got with 3.07 gears and 33" tires. I guess it depends on what YOU can put up with.

I agree with everyone but remember he could have 3.55. My yj has 3.55 and I have 33s its fine. Well i have 3.55 until berts is done with my new axles today.

go to jeep.com
and there's somewhere there you can look for vehicle info or something...it's a 'contact us' type thing where you fill out this form with your questions...put your email addy on it and send.
all i did was put my VIN # on it and asked for facxtory specs of my jeep...
nothing i didn't know already but it's kinda cool to have a copy of the factory spec sheet. it'll have axle ratio on it.

I think this was it... http://www.daimlerchrysler.ca/jeep/en/assistance/index.html

the site's been re done since i was there last

I too think if your YJ has 3.55's you'll be okay with 33's. I still have 3.55's in my truck, and the t18a is practically a 3 speed. It annoyingly lacks power at this point, but I manage. I think with your fuel injection (think you got mo' power than my '87) and a closer geared 5 speed should be okay.

okay, instead of guessing what ratio you got, jack the rear up and do a quick check! 3 turns of driveshaft to turn the wheels once means 3.07. Three and a half turns means 3.55. Easy enough!
