Eagle Ridge Land-Use Meeting - URGENT
At our next region 2 meeting 15 Jan 02 (7:30 pm at Ricky’s, south east corner of Fraser highway and 152nd), two of our Eagle Ridge committee members (Dale Mcgregor and Jeff Steiger) will be on hand to kick-off our strategy session: what do we as an association with respect to Eagle Ridge...pending closure and remake. As you may or may not know, we have sent a letter to the Mayor of the City of Coquitlam and Councillors and have received a response . Their intent is to get Eagle Ridge (currently crown land) transferred to the City of Coquitlam . When this transfer does happen, they would like to convert it to a park (feasibility study to occur).
As part of the study, we will have an opportunity to be consulted on in ascertaining the range of recreational activities to be included as part of the parks’ offerings. The 4WDABC committee was established to be the focal point in how we professionally deal with the City with respect to this matter ... planning/strategy and execution as opposed to having several agendas uncoordinated . We wish you to attend this meeting and provide input to our committee . There will be non-4WDABC members there as well and we will welcome their input . If you cannot attend, pls e-mail me your input ([email protected]).
This issue, from the association’s perspective, is very important and we must be part of the City’s process, conclusions and recommendations with respect to the use of this park . Don’t think for once that other groups such as Federation of Mountain Clubs (5000 members) are sitting idly by and doing nothing. We must act now and layout our plan . Some planning thoughts (off the wall) could include education of the City’s Mayor and Councillors about the 4WDABC and activities, site monitoring ?, funding...we may need $’s to further our cause, continued maintenance (garbage clean-up) of Eagle Ridge etc. The 4WDABC (under Jeff Steiger’s initiative) conducted 2 major clean-ups at Eagle Ridge in 2001 ; he also got the Port Moody Ecological Society involved . 4WDABC membership participation was excellent as well as non-members at these clean-ups.
Bottom line ... we need your input . Look forward to meeting you all and receiving your input.
Gerald Bolduc, VP 4WDABC
