there is two possibilites, you either have 2.73 or 3.73's. more than likely you have 3.73.

isn't the 2.73 the d300 low range??? i have a hard time believing that 2.73 came in the rear diff...especially in a jeep.

2.62 or 2.63 to 1 is the D300 low range. You have to remember that you're talking about an early '80's Jeep. The oil crisis was still fresh in everyone's memory and many trucks got really, really crappy ring and pinion gear ratios around then. 2.73 wouldn't surprise me.

i also forgot to add that if you have the dana 30(early) up front, it has 3.73 stock. so if that is whats up front, the amc 20 is definely 3.73. and yes the amc 20 had 2.73's.
like lars said, it was the 80's, real crappy ring and pinion ratio's. i have pulled this gear set out of a amc 20 once.

I have either a 3.54 or 3.56 gear ratio in my stock AMC 20 and Dana 30. The axles are 1980 Cj5. 3.31s are also a possibility. What size engine do you have?
