I'm up for going out and finding or making some when my truck's done. But that'll be a few months from now so it's strictly web-wheelin' for now!

I'd tell you about my truck but you probably wouldn't believe me.

Part of the problem is that no one wants to risk wasting a day of 'wheeling to explore new trails in the hopes of finding some "hardcore" stuff. The end result is that you're left with the same old same old.

The ol' "you reap what you sow" in action.

BTW, has anyone from up here tried Reiter's Pit, Sultan Basin, Elbe Hills or any of the other WA trail areas?

i went to stave yesterday, b-o-r-i-n-g stuck over and over again... someone here must know a spot that isnt just ALL mud.. how about some good rocky climbs? where technique is needed and not foot to the floor power..... more technique runs are needed, anytime someone wants to go on a big " technique run" let me know!!!

Why don't you go and get a good BC trail map(I bought mine at Mountain Co-op) and a gate key from the municipality out here and start exploring some of the other parts of Stave. I think that Stave has a pretty good variety of trails, obstacles and muddy areas. I usually spend the day playing on the surrounding trails and find my way to the mud flats at fifth bridge in the afternoon or evening. Have you ever gone up to the plateau? If you know where I'm talking about it's a pretty rocky road that Zigzags up the mountain. There are tons of little trails that branch off of the road and have some pretty technical rocky climbs! Gate keys were about $9 a few years back from the municipality and were available to anyone who filled out the required forms. I'm not positive if they are still available but they opened up most, if not all of the yellow gates in the surrounding area.

I don't know what its called but the Forestry Road right before Cultus Lake Slides was great today. I went up there to drop off some mtn bikers as high as I could take them, got to the base and they had blocked one end of the road off because of some washouts or culvert work or something, needless to say those blocks weren't that heavy lol. Anyhow there were a few good spots along the way where they had been working, and some good spots at that rock quarry work area, as for mud theres a few good spots there but nowhere to winch out on most of them so take a friend. I will be going back again next weekend and I will provide a better report.

Um, aren't blocks usually put there for a reason?

Not always. I spoke with a contractor for BC Forestry (or something like that) and he said that de-activated roads aren't supposed to be driven on but you're not breakin' the law by doing so. They're more worried about liability due to the road's condition. In fact, some times roads are de-activated to to certain guidelines like, wide enough for an ATV. The unfortunate thing is that there is ATV trail and then the next up is 4x4 road which means virtually paved. What we need is to get them to create a new category, hardcore 4x4, which is the same as ATV but 3 feet wider.

Excellent info. 3 feet wider and several feet deeper/taller at points with boulders and logs strewn across it would be great!

I would love to come but will give you crap excuses instead:

a) My engine hasn't been started in 4 months and I don't even want to think about driving it down to Cali.

b) Yes, the SAS isn't done. We work on it every 2nd Monday. Yes I know that's slow.

I'll go next year I promise.
