Headlight laws...flatfendering a Samurai?

983 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  lars
I want to cut the front fenders on the Sami, make a new grill, and move the headlights closer together to make room for the fender cutting to be effective....

Anyone know how close I can go without getting a ticket?

If you properly align them after moving them, it should be find. You'll only have problems if they are aimed to high, low, right, or left.

The MVA says that they are supposed to be mounted near the corners to indicate your width but doesn't actually say how narrow you can make them. Those new Saturns have the headlights damn near the center so I figure that you can get away with it.

If you have a small light or reflector on the corner...that should be enough to replace it. Car headlights seem to be moving more and more inwards.

Land Rover moved their lights wider apart to satisfy North American requirements. Unfortunately, I can't recall whose requirements those were. AFAIK, the TJ lights are also wider apart but I _think_ that was for the European market.

Jo-jo, go see Rob Bryce. He's got a thick sheaf of MV regs sitting inside his Blazer.
