Are you still having problems with bending pushrods?

If so, I found something interesting today.

While rebuilding a set of cylinder heads, I dismantled and magnafluxed my rockershaft assemblies. I found a lengthwise crack running from one end of the shaft to the other, but the shaft is still straight. I am going to try and polish it out without removing too much material.

Anyways, if the shaft were cracked worse, it may case the rockers to get misaligned.

Just a thought.

Not a bad idea. I haven't (knock on wood) broken any since August. I've replaced 4 rocker arms. Two on either side of the motor, and never the same one twice. So far so good.

I *am* contemplating porting another set of 345 heads I have and see about having a valve job done on 'em and just swapping heads out - making sure the machinist preps the guides correctly. One possibility is that the guides are just a touch too tall and I'm hitting the rocker arm on it at times.

Or maybe I've replaced all of the bad arms.

I guess I'll find out in the Spring after my Scout's body has been patched up.
