Thx to infinite Corporate_Suzuki_Wisdom we have what we have. It's not only ratio but the way T/case is designed....VERY strange indeed.
Other than that I don't know :)

Suzukis used to have nearly twice the low range of either Jeeps or rovers

the LJ80 had a 2:1 High range
and a 3.15:1 low range
with 4.56 axles stock

Jeeps of the same era had only 2.62 low range and 3.55 axle ratio's (if lucky....they also came with 2.72's in the AMC 20's)

The modern suzuki SJ transfercases can be easily upgraded to 4.16 low range and 1.4 hi range with aftermarket gears (up to 6:1 low range is available)
You could also check out the website in my Sig. for some other (stronger) options.
