hey guys

its me again with more XJ questions

1) can someone post or e-mail me pics or diagrams of different diffs please, I'm looking to know what the d44 and 8.25 diff covers look like.

2) Is there some way of identifying the 242 t-case ie: is there a tag or a stamp and can I see it if I somewhat crawl under the Jeep.

3) The aw-4 is that the only auto tranny offered or were there more.

4) what years did the reverse cut d30 come out in and was that an option or did they come with it standard.

Thanks again guys

Jason

Unless you're looking at an '87-'89, it is extremely unlikely that it will have a D44 unless it was swapped in by a previous owner. AFAIK, only some XJs came with the D44 and only in '87-'89.

The D44 is angular, the D35 is perfectly oval, and the 8.25 is oval put with an obvious flat spot on the bottom.

If it is SelecTrac, then it's a 242 case. SelecTrac means that it has part-time, full-time and 2wd modes. ONLY the 242 has the full-time mode. If it's CommandTrac, it only has part-time and 2wd like a traditional transfer case and it'll be the 231.

3) The aw-4 is that the only auto tranny offered or were there more.
With the 4.0L, I'm 99.9% certain that the AW4 was the only auto. It's a 4-spd with the two lowest gears being a 1-2 combination which automatically switches between the two, you can't choose unless you install a special aftermarket switch.

AFAIK the Rev cut D30 has been standard since '87 (not sure about 84-86 XJ's tho).

Its a 1997

also I bought rotors and pads for my YJ's d30 and never got around to putting them on as, because the ones on the YJ were fine and was trying to do some preventative maintenance, and I was waiting for some nice weather. Will the rotors and pads from a d30 for a YJ work on the cherokee's d30.

Thanks
jason
