paint advice...... (colour)

2593 Views 16 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  crazyguy
well this is what i am doing right now. i am assuming that a if you can bolt a yj tub onto a cj you can bolt a cj front clip onto a yj. my plan is to pick up a cj grill, rad, hood and fenders and bolting it to my yj. i will be using black tj flares and making it a flatty.

now for the paint. i am thinking of doing an olive drab green for the entire jeep. i know that krylon makes camo colour spray cans that is supposed to be very chip resistant. (my axles are painted with the same stuff and it is very durable). what do you guys think??? for all of you that have seen my jeep should i just leave it the sahara colour and get the new front end painted to match or go army green?

How about PINK!

Whatever you decide, make sure you have lot's of chrome.

The CJ front clip is shorter than the YJ front clip is. You will probably need to rework the front body mount and the shock towers may hit the fenders. The wiring harness will also be slightly different so be prepared to change connectors on the lights.

The biggest concern will be rad clearance. Depending on the motor you're running you may find the fan is too close to the rad now.

Corn, i was checking out some of the olive painted trucks, looks pretty good, but i think your paint job looks good too. Either way, it'll still be sweet, but the olive drab probably would look tougher, and more offroading like.

The swap is a relatively easy one. A few guys we know have done the swap and it looks great. I think both front ends mount at the same points. The paint would look great.

i am going to use a cj rad instead of a yj one so it will mount up to the grill etc. easily.

Hey Corn, I think your Jeep looks great the way it is now, May be it'll look even better with the CJ front. I've also toyed with the idea of a CJ front. All in all, I think your YJ is one of the best looking one around that I've seen. About the paint, I'll say keep the colour you have now, Don't fix what's not broken.
Just my .02 cents

I agree! Your tan colour is sweet. I wish mine was as light as yours.

well then if i do stay with the tan where is a inexpensive place that i can take my hood, fender and grill for paint. i will sand them and prime tham myself but i sort of want the final layer and clearcoat sprayed on professionally. anyone have any no tax cash hook ups?????

PS. i found a MINT grill with all the lights etc. for 50 bucks also i found the hood which also has no dents or rust for 40 bucks. so all i need is the 2 fenders......anyone????

Dude, you are the best junkyard scrounger I have ever met. Anyhow, about the color, I'm for staying with the current color. I personally think it's pretty kickass. The black bumpers and tire carrier and stuff all stand out good against that tan.

friends of mine do body work and painting as a side job out of there garage. no tax, cash only. he usually charges $20 an hour but I will ask what kinda flat rate he would want for a straight forward spray job assuming that all massaging and priming is already done.
it up to you if you want to find the paint yourself or have him find it for you.

Leave it the sahara colour, its the only color as cool as olive drab.

I had suspected that this was your plan when I saw your post in the wanted adds for those parts. But dude, stay with the colour you have. It looks sooooo tight!!

Corn... whats up? long time no talk! So your CJ converting your YJ, cool! I'll give you a call sometime. oh and I'd stick with the colour you have if you can get a good deal on painting, but if not then a dark green would look nice also. later bud.

I have to agree with this comment! Kid always finds good deals, I don;t think Corn has paid fully retail on even one part on his Jeep.
