quadrajet question

I've heard that you shouldn't remove the small fuel filter in the fuel inlet of Quadrajets, other than for replacement of course, because the filter and the spring behind it act as a pressure regulator. Apparently, q-jets are finnicky regarding fuel pressure. But if I have a pressure regulator just before the carb, would it be OK to remove this little PITA? Any ill effects? I do have another filter in
the line down near the tank.
