rattling noise coming from trasfer case area..

4109 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Y-James
i'm getting this slight rattling noise coming from the transfer case area(middle of my jeep)...it comes and goes..seem to hear it quite often when i start the jeep and when i start moving from a complete stop..i personally think it's my heat shield that's rattling..i use to have the same problem and same noise with my other cars aswell..

how hard is it to get to the heatshield and tighten it or rip it off?..

you can't fix it if it is the cat - replace it. my suggustion would be have someone start driving your jeep and you squat down beside it and try and pin point the noise source.

Pull slightly on your t-case lever and see if the rattling stops or if you can feel it realy strong through the lever. I had problems with the lever pivot bushing wearing out on two of my Jeeps.

that would be the platinum screen in your cat rattling around, it happens when you jar the thing lose from all the crazy wheeling we do.

Its not a problem
just anoying
but it wont cause harm
if you have the $ then replace the cat
if not, 'deal with it!'

YAHOO!!!!!
as for a cheap replacement go to gary's. for 50 bux i got a entire exhaust from the header to the tail pipe last week. he was too lazy to cut it. since i have a borla cat back i just replaced the cat and the pipe from the cat to the header cause if you had seen mine you would notice my nice custom exhaust job to clear the front drive shaft. (torch and a 5 lbs sledge)

or you could just get a straight pipe from the header to the muffler, with a section that you can swap out to put the cat in and out for Aircare. better flow and no rattling cat!
