Wonderin' which direction to go, probly wont matter tho.
More but smaller splines, or fewer but bigger splines.

Hmm... this is just a shot in the dark, and I'm usually all for diameter, but I think 23 splines sounds rather low.

What is this for? An axle?

LOL...wow thats funny, "23 spline axle" LOL:D :D :D

Actualy it's an input/output shaft for the T-case ;)
The diameter is almost identical, but since I have the choice I'm a lil torn between the two.
I'm thinkin the 23 spline cause it's a WHOPPING 0.014" bigger.:D :D
That's 7/504ths of an inch bigger. (small 1/16) :D :D :D

I think 16 is the fewest spline for an axle (not that I realy know).
And thats in a D60 (I believe).
All this and ya haven't voted yet:confused:

The more splines you have, the stronger it is. More splines = more contact area = stronger.

I'd also factor in availability of drive shaft yokes etc. Stuff with oddball spline counts or shaft size can be hard to find and $$$.

But 'typicaly' the more splines you have the thicker the base material.
Example- Ford 9" axles
28 spline = 1.20"
31 spline = 1.33"
35 spline = 1.50"
40 spline = 1.71"
If shaft size was 2" a 50 spline axle would be better than a 100 spline axle IMO 'cause the teeth would get too small

The parts are stock or 'ultra' Modified pieces so availability is not a factor.

A agree with the theory of 'more is better', But do you go with more splines, or more base material.
23/27 spline is not that big a difference
1.220"/1.206" is not that big a difference either.

There is more surface area with the 27 spline shaft vs the 23 spline, the 27 will wear slower IMHO, however the depth of the splines (major - minor diameter) is deeper on the coarse spline.

6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other I guess!
