I'm rebuilding my 4.0 Cherokee. I want to use the longer stroke crank from the earlier Jeep/AMC. I'd like to get a 3.9" stroke crank. There are several displacements for the straight six. I don't know if the differences are due to stroke or bore or both. Could you list the bore-stroke numbers for the different engines? 232, 242, 252, etc. What years had which engine? Thanks.

Let me put it another way. Does the 232 have the sams stroke as the 258? I'd assume that it doesn't. Does the 242 (or is it a 248) have the same stroke as the 258 (3.9")? Is the 258 the only Jeep/AMC with a 3.9" stroke?
What years can I find the 258? How about the years for the other Jeep straight six?

The first step in any project such as this must be research. Some phone calls to companies producing stroker kits indicated that 4.2L (258ci) crankshafts can be and in fact are used. However, beyond this, information became difficult to obtain and was often contradictory.
