What would be the easiest way to beef up the rear end in my 88 YJ? (6 cylinder/5 speed) Should I go to a 8.8 from a ford explorer? Or will 4.10 4 banger axles be able to cut it with 33" tires? Anybody have any sugestions for me? Thanks!
4 banger axles are the same as the 6cyl. Gears do not make it stronger- is other things that always break. Most cost effective upgrade is an 8.8 from an X. Even just using the X drum brakes is fine as they are a huge step up from the YJ drums.
Is there a year range to look for? Do they come in a 4:10 ratio? I just picked up a set of 4 banger axles and will be putting them in with a 4 inch spring lift. Might as well do it all at once!
