The rear driveshaft on my 1985 toy has some play where it enters the third member. It only moves a little but I've also notices some gear oil leaking there two. The front axle has no such play. I assume its because of the constant use of the rear (2wd driving). Does anyone know what is involved in fixing this problem. Do I need a new bearing, is the work very involved. I plan on adding a rear "drop" in locker like I have in the front (powertrax or gearless) and figure I will take care of the other problem then. Any ideas?

Remove the driveshaft and torque the nut back down. Spin it to check the pre-load and give it a shake up and down.
If its tight to turn or still moves around you will need new pinion bearings.
Put a new seal in while your there.

Yep, and if the pinion nut's loosened up don't drive it, it'll blow big time. This tends to be the cause of a lot of toy r+ps blowing up.

IFS- Shouldn't that be a four letter word?
