My tranfer case (13-54) is making a funny ping ping sound every once in a while when I change direction and there seems to be a lot of slack in the driveline. I'm guessing that the chain needs to be replaced. As soon as I get a job I'll be tearing it down. Can I get away with just a chain or do I need a whole re-build kit? Or am I guessing wrong?

the chain would only affect the slop you have turning the front drive shaft with hubs un locked, generaly t case wear doesnt affect the rear, because of the high - low sliding assembly doesnt move verry often (only when slecting t case gears)the drive train back lash is mostly limited to ring and pinion backlash, types of lockers, diff gear wear, tranny wear, probably ok with just a chain
