Hi guys! Not many people on the homeboard (island4x4.com) have this type of Detroit gadget, so I thought I'd pick your brains instead.

I run a D30 Truetrac (up front). I had it installed just under a year ago. We've been trying to diagnose a front end noise for a while now, so popped the diff cover off - only to find enough ground silver metal to make the gear oil that didn't drain out look like mercury.

Does this sound normal? I've been told it could be and that I should panic
so I wanted to get some other opinions....

did you do the install yourself or did you get it done at a shop. if you got it done at a shop i would take some of the oil in a jar and tell them to have a look at your diff because you are worried about premature wear on your gears. i am sure the shop will help you out if you show them the oil you got from the diff.

Really, I wanted to hear if this was a common problem or not. My mechanic told me to call Randy's R+P to talk to them, cuz he didn't think it was usual.

Have you ever seen 3-4 chimps bent over double while trying to listen to the front end of a Cherokee in a parking lot at 11:30 pm? I wish I had a camera!

Anyways, the ratcheting noise as I turn slowly doesn't seem to come from the diff. Last night's conclusion was caliper shifting.

So I have a Truetrac, with lots of metal grindings in the oil. I'll be calling Randy's to see what they have to say.
