theres a weird noise in my engine when i accelerate. when i first bought the truck, they said the rattling noise was a timing chain problem but it wasnt that bad and now it sounds a lot louder and worse. what could it be?

does the noise sound like it's on top of you're motor or the bottom??
could be lifters could be water pump could be anything discribe the noise??

He's got an 87 Toyota, so that would indicate 22R or 22RE.

It could definitely be the timing chain! You might have broken a guide, and now the chain is slapping against your t-chain cover, wearing a hole in the side of it. If so, you should address it NOW, or your chain could let go and bend internals, and if the chain wears the cover far enough you'll hit a water jacket and your oil will become one with your coolant. (Zen and the art of Toyota maintenance!)

Maybe get somebody who's heard the t-chain noise before to have a listen to it.
