I was looking through old pics of the 47 cj2a parts that I received when I bought the vehicle and noticed this number. It corresponds with the 47 serial numbers but could this be the serial for this jeep or simply a part number for the block?

number is 908756 on bottom of block

I don't think that number is going to help you. Look like it is an engine casting number for a later l head in something else.

Check out this listing of cj2a data http://cj-2a.com/parts_list/CJ2A_data.php

You will notice that the numbers on the frame and body tags match. But everything else could be different.

If you look carefully at the photo, you can see a small portion of the block sticks out past the head on the right side. There is no paint on it. That it where the engine serial number is usually stamped. Often when these old engines are rebuilt, the top of the block is shaved and the s/n disappears. Happened to my '55 CJ3B.
