CLOSED. LOCKED. NO GO. Trespassing under the Mining Act (like a C.O. or police with 100x more power).

Huge gate and actively used (if you go up somehow, pretty much you'll be caught). Sorry folks, but it's yet another sweet spot lost to us wheelers and explorers.
Ah that's terrible news, so it's just sitting there rotting away and no one can see it again :(

True, most likely no-one will be allowed up there anymore (or at least not for a long time), but even at this stage, there isn't nearly the amount of stuff up there that there used to be. It's all being "reclamed" (Provincial Reclamation Project") and cleaned up for the museum at Britannia as far as I hear from the Britannia locals. All the great pics that you see in the BC4x4 article that Larry did when we traveled up there back in '09 are just pictures now. Stuff has been taken away. The real shame is, there's still historical stuff up there that is fun to see (the swimming pool area for example).

Here's a link to Larry's article that he wrote about our little excursion:

All the cool stuff you see in the photos are now gone. The Pelton wheel house and other cool things - gone.

And here's us driving up the first time. I love how the general public thinks Britannia IS the mine site - Mt. Sheer is WAYYYYYY up and east of Britannia Beach as we know it now. Where that video ends is still nowhere near the actual mine itself. It was a kind of "middle ground" area for transferring material and as the "city" (school, houses, rec centre, offices, Postal Office, pool, etc etc).

The ministry of lands forests And natural resources operations granted the contaminated sites branch of the same division(MLFNRO) a temporary permit( 2-3 years) to close the road so they could Finnish the reclamation. Other than the obvious contamination there are many adits and vertical shafts scattered throughout the woods. Once all these issues have been delt with the gAtes will be opened. the idiots getti g stuck on the rock face at Jane basin and having to get helicopter long lined out was the final straw, hope they are reading this! lots of people up there on dirt bikes and quads now though. Watch out for activity on the britannia side and stay out of their way. Furry and up towards Phyllis is all good, no activity, except around Victoria camp on upper furry.
